About the Role

The General Studies Program in the Office of Faculty Advancement and Student Success at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on short notice.

The Fall term runs from mid-August to late December, and the Spring term from mid-January to mid-May. Summer teaching opportunities may also be available. Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewable contingent on satisfactory evaluations and work availability.

Course Levels and Qualifications

Lower Division Courses

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Graduate degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education.
    • University teaching experience including active learning and hybrid modalities.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Demonstrated experience or expertise in teaching, research, or service connected to underrepresented communities in higher education.
    • Demonstrated currency in subject matters including Business Administration, Engineering, Leadership, or any of the STEM or Allied Health Careers.

Upper Division Courses

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Graduate degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education, with demonstrated experience or expertise in interdisciplinary methodologies, internships, undergraduate research, and/or community engaged learning.
    • University teaching experience including active learning and hybrid modalities.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Terminal degree in an academic field including liberal arts and sciences and education, with demonstrated experience or expertise in interdisciplinary methodologies, internships, undergraduate research, and/or community engaged learning.
    • Demonstrated experience or expertise in teaching, research, or service connected to underrepresented communities in higher education.

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank and placed at the beginning of the range. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
