About the Department

The Cal Poly Humboldt Psychology department is dedicated to providing undergraduate and graduate students with the skills to scientifically and critically evaluate psychological processes. Our courses address the impact of culture and context on human functioning, fostering an appreciation for differences through research and applied experiences. We value and respect diversity as a strength and seek to attract and retain the best possible students, staff, and faculty. We prepare our students to apply their knowledge and skills from psychology to create a socially just and equitable society.

Qualifications

• M.A./M.S. or equivalent in the appropriate field, with documented evidence of course-related content expertise.
• For graduate courses in the Counseling and School Psychology programs: relevant experiences in counseling or school settings; in some courses, licensure or certification may also be required.
• Preference given to candidates with an earned doctoral degree in a relevant field and documented successful teaching experience at the college level within the last three years.

Position Details

Position Type: Lecturer (temporary, as-needed basis).

First Review Date: Applications received by April 1st annually are given first consideration. Early response is encouraged.

Pay

Salary is dependent on qualifications and experience. The salary schedule for the Lecturer – Academic Year Classification is as follows:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month

Appointees are typically placed at the beginning of the range. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For more information, see the Explanation of the Distribution of Pay.

Cal Poly Humboldt sits on the traditional homelands of the Wiyot people in what is currently called Arcata, CA. The Wiyot people call the area Goudi'ni (over in the woods). The campus is in close proximity to several thriving Native American tribes and communities. Humboldt has the largest percentage of Native American students in the CSU system and over 30 Native American faculty and staff, many from local area California Indian tribes. The university is home to leading Native American programs, including:

• Indian Natural Resource, Science and Engineering Program (INRSEP)

Opportunities exist for research, teaching, and community work on Native American history and cultures, with resources available in the Cal Poly Humboldt Library’s Special Collections and the Humboldt Room, which houses tribally focused archive materials. Humboldt engages with Native communities through initiatives like the annual California Indian Big Time, Indigenous People's Week, and networking opportunities via the Cal Poly Humboldt Council of American Indian Faculty and Staff.
