In-School Volunteer for Students Impacted by Incarceration at Los Angeles High School of the Arts

Description

The mission of The PATHfinder Club is to create supportive paths for youth whose lives have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation. We co-create a community where Club members feel comfortable and confident to stay in school and graduate, set and achieve goals, expand their resilience, conquer challenges, embrace opportunities for healing and self-expression and connect in meaningful ways with their peers, loved ones and their community.

Responsibilities

• Support Club members in staying in school and achieving academic success
• Encourage Club members to set and work towards personal and academic goals
• Help Club members build resilience and overcome challenges
• Facilitate activities that promote self-expression and healing
• Connect Club members with resources and opportunities within the school and community

Requirements

• Commitment to volunteer for one hour per week throughout the entire school year
• Willingness to attend weekly meetings during lunch on Thursdays at Los Angeles High School of the Arts
• Ability to engage with students in a supportive and non-judgmental manner
• Passion for working with youth who have experienced trauma and adversity

Qualifications

• No specific qualifications required beyond a desire to make a positive impact

Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build trust and rapport with young people
• Experience working with youth who have experienced trauma and adversity is a plus
