Description
The mission of The PATHfinder Club is to create supportive paths for youth whose lives have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation. We co-create a community where Club members feel comfortable and confident to stay in school and graduate, set and achieve goals, expand their resilience, conquer challenges, embrace opportunities for healing and self-expression and connect in meaningful ways with their peers, loved ones and their community.
Responsibilities
- Support Club members in staying in school and achieving academic success
- Encourage Club members to set and work towards personal and academic goals
- Help Club members build resilience and overcome challenges
- Facilitate activities that promote self-expression and healing
- Connect Club members with resources and opportunities within the school and community
Requirements
- Commitment to volunteer for one hour per week throughout the entire school year
- Willingness to attend weekly meetings during lunch on Thursdays at Los Angeles High School of the Arts
- Ability to engage with students in a supportive and non-judgmental manner
- Passion for working with youth who have experienced trauma and adversity
Qualifications
- No specific qualifications required beyond a desire to make a positive impact
Skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to build trust and rapport with young people
- Experience working with youth who have experienced trauma and adversity is a plus
