In-School Volunteer for Students Impacted by Incarceration at New Village Girls Academy

Description

The mission of The PATHfinder Club is to create supportive paths for youth whose lives have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation. We co-create a community where Club members feel comfortable and confident to stay in school and graduate, set and achieve goals, expand their resilience, conquer challenges, embrace opportunities for healing and self-expression and connect in meaningful ways with their peers, loved ones and their community.

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly meetings during lunch on Mondays at New Village Girls Academy
• Engage with students to support their academic and personal growth
• Provide a safe and inclusive environment for Club members
• Help students set and work towards academic and personal goals
• Encourage students to connect with their peers, loved ones, and the broader community

Requirements

• Commitment to volunteer for the entire academic year (one hour per week)
• Willingness to attend weekly meetings during lunch on Mondays at New Village Girls Academy
• Ability to build positive relationships with students and provide emotional support
• Open-mindedness to learning about the experiences of youth impacted by incarceration

Qualifications

• Passion for supporting youth and helping them succeed academically and personally
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Willingness to listen and respond to student needs
• Experience working with youth or a background in education is a plus
