Description
The mission of The PATHfinder Club is to create supportive paths for youth whose lives have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation. We co-create a community where Club members feel comfortable and confident to stay in school and graduate, set and achieve goals, expand their resilience, conquer challenges, embrace opportunities for healing and self-expression and connect in meaningful ways with their peers, loved ones and their community.
Responsibilities
- Support students who have experienced incarceration, detention, or deportation
- Create a safe and inclusive environment for club members
- Encourage students to stay in school and work towards graduation
- Aid in goal setting and achievement for club members
- Help build resilience and overcome challenges faced by club members
- Facilitate connections between club members, their peers, families, and the broader community
Requirements
- Commitment to volunteering throughout the entire academic year
- One hour per week during lunch on Mondays
- Willingness to attend Bronx Academy of Letters' meetings
Qualifications
- Passion for supporting youth affected by incarceration, detention, or deportation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create a welcoming and supportive environment
- Willingness to listen and provide guidance to students
