In-School Volunteer for Students Impacted by Incarceration at Culver City High School

Description

The mission of The PATHfinder Club is to create supportive paths for youth whose lives have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation. We co-create a community where Club members feel comfortable and confident to stay in school and graduate, set and achieve goals, expand their resilience, conquer challenges, embrace opportunities for healing and self-expression and connect in meaningful ways with their peers, loved ones and their community.

Responsibilities

• Attend weekly meetings at Culver City High School during lunch on Tuesdays
• Support students who have been impacted by incarceration, detention and deportation
• Create a safe and inclusive environment for club members
• Help students set and achieve academic and personal goals
• Encourage students to connect with their peers, loved ones and the broader community

Requirements

• Commit to attending all meetings throughout the academic year
• Be available for one hour each week
• Have a positive attitude and willingness to listen and support students
• Be able to maintain confidentiality regarding student information

Qualifications

• Pass a background check
• Experience working with youth is preferred but not required

Skills

• Strong communication skills
• Ability to build trust and rapport with students
• Empathy and patience
