About the Role
Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Health Care Technician (HCT) provides support to nursing staff by assisting with personal care, hygiene, and vital signs for assigned patients. They facilitate communication among departments, visitors, and staff, serving as a public relations liaison for the unit.
The HCT performs tasks such as maintaining supplies, documenting patient data, assisting with activities of daily living, preparing patients for transport, and providing direct patient care including specimen collection, hygiene, feeding, and removing lines or catheters. They monitor patient safety through bedside care and remote video sitters, troubleshoot camera systems, and float to various units as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assist with personal care and hygiene for patients
- Measure and record vital signs, glucose levels, and intake/output
- Maintain supplies and document patient data
- Assist with activities of daily living and prepare patients for transport
- Provide direct patient care, including specimen collection, feeding, and removing lines or catheters
- Monitor patient safety through bedside care and remote video sitters
- Troubleshoot camera systems for patient monitoring
- Float to various units as needed
- Facilitate communication among departments, visitors, and staff
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or relevant clinical experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire
- Competency in vital signs measurement, glucose testing, and intake/output recording
- Ability to assist with patient activities and ensure safety
- Attention to detail, strong communication skills, and ability to work under supervision in a healthcare setting
