Grading Superintendent/Grading Coordinator

What You’ll Do

  • Help oversee DCS’s grading division and grading field operations.
  • Lead, support, and mentor Grading Foreman.
  • Cook up manpower, equipment, trucking, materials, traffic control, surveying, testing, and other project resources.
  • Use project cost models, production goals, crew setups, and schedule needs to help allocate resources efficiently.
  • Work closely with the Field Operations Manager, Project Superintendents, Project Managers, and other trade leaders.
  • Review grading plans, project requirements, schedules, production goals, survey needs, testing needs, and field needs.
  • Visit jobsites regularly to review safety, quality, production, schedule, and crew needs.
  • Help Foreman plan ahead and build efficient 3-week lookahead schedules.
  • Identify issues early and help solve problems before they impact the job.
  • Monitor productions, crew setups, equipment needs, trucking needs, and project progress.
  • Ensure Foreman are completing daily paperwork, safety documentation, and job reporting accurately.
  • Help train, develop, and grow grading team members.
  • Help interview, hire, train, coach, and develop grading team members.
  • Partner with Operations leadership and HR on performance issues, accountability, and staffing decisions within the grading division.
  • Promote a field culture built on safety, accountability, communication, and doing the job right.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong heavy civil grading/earthwork experience.
  • Experience with site grading, mass grading, subgrade, compaction, drainage, equipment coordination, trucking, traffic control, survey coordination, testing coordination, and field production.
  • Foreman, General Foreman, Superintendent, Coordinator, or similar field leadership experience.
  • Ability to read plans, understand grades, understand survey/staking needs, and help crews execute work correctly.
  • Ability to understand cost models, crew productions, equipment needs, and schedule impacts to help plan work efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with Foreman, crews, PMs, Superintendents, leadership, inspectors, vendors, surveyors, testing companies, traffic control providers, and clients.
  • Able to be organized, proactive, and plan ahead.
  • A leader who can hold people accountable while also training and supporting them.
  • Able to build strong relationships with Foreman and crews.
  • Able to promote a field culture built on safety, accountability, communication, and doing the job right.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 7–10+ years of heavy civil construction experience preferred.
  • Strong grading/earthwork background required.
  • 3+ years of field leadership experience preferred.
  • Must be able to work in active construction environments and travel to jobsites throughout the Greater Phoenix area.
