About the role

The General Merchandise Clerk (“GMC”) is accountable for delivering G.O.A.T. (Greet, Observe, Assist, Thank) service to customers. This versatile role supports multiple store areas—front-end, grocery, e-commerce, produce, and floral—handling tasks that shift with operational needs.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $17.10 – $22.85. Starting pay is at step 1; the range reflects progression to the maximum step under the collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, professional customer service (G.O.A.T.) and assist with questions, product location, and out-of-stock issues.
• Bag groceries carefully, help load vehicles, and retrieve/organize shopping carts.
• Stock shelves, displays, and end caps with general merchandise; follow CAO bread procedures and planograms.
• Maintain clean, safe aisles and displays; sweep floors, clean spills, and remove trash.
• Fulfill e-commerce orders: inspect items for damage/freshness, pack securely, label clearly, and assist with customer pickup.
• Prepare, package, and price fresh-cut produce; monitor freshness, temperatures, and inventory logs.
• Open, price, and stock floral merchandise; maintain neat, attractive displays and remove wilted items.
• Operate store equipment (hand trucks, box cutters, etc.) safely and collaborate with team members.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including courtesy clerk tasks.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma preferred but not required.
• Valid Food Handler / Health Card.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks with a customer-focused attitude.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills; basic math and reading proficiency.
• Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel for 4–8 hours daily and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Adherence to store policies, safety standards, and the collective bargaining agreement.
