Freight Handler - Part-Time

About the role

This position involves transporting freight within a dock environment, ensuring proper handling, documentation, and securement of cargo for loading and unloading trailers. Working conditions include exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and weather variations, with flexibility in hours based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

• Operate motorized and manual equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move freight.
• Verify freight documentation for accuracy, including type, weight, and hazardous materials.
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, and ropes, and repair damaged cargo when needed.
• Complete required reports and assist with freight documentation and customer inquiries.
• Perform hostling duties if required, adhering to all safety and regulatory standards.
• Work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; must be at least 18 years old.

Skills

• Experience in warehousing, freight handling, or forklift operation preferred.
• Ability to perform basic math, lift heavy freight, and work physical tasks including bending, twisting, and pushing.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work safely in varied weather conditions.
