FIT NYC Adjunct Faculty Pool - Film, Media, Performing Arts
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business, and technology within the State University of New York, invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Film, Media, Performing Arts Department, School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. About the Role
The Film, Media, Performing Arts department seeks applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions. Successful candidates will teach filmmaking courses involving development, shooting, and editing of short films at beginning and/or advanced levels.
Responsibilities
- Teach filmmaking courses involving development, shooting, and editing of short films at beginning and/or advanced levels.
- Explain and lead development of ideas for films.
- Demonstrate use of cameras in a variety of situations.
- Explain and demonstrate editing decisions and techniques.
- Demonstrate sound recording techniques and the uses of sound in short films.
- Deliver course material, assess student performance, provide guidance, and submit grades on time.
Requirements
- Earned Master’s degree, plus thirty (30) additional graduate credits and/or evidence of scholarly achievement, professional activities, and teaching experience.
- The Master’s degree requirement may be waived if the candidate is in a doctoral program where it is not required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD or other terminal degree in a related field.
Skills
- Familiarity with current digital technology, including cameras, lighting, sound recording gear, and editing programs.
- Proven ability to create well-made documentary and/or fictional narrative films.
Additional Information
This is a part-time adjunct position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will maintain this posting to create a pool of candidates for potential future assignments and will contact applicants whose qualifications align with programmatic needs.
Pay
Compensation is governed by the UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The base rate is $89.98 per hour for minimum qualifications. Final rate, step, and appointment rank may vary based on additional criteria outlined in the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules.
