About the Role

The Fine Arts department is recruiting a pool of applicants for possible adjunct teaching positions in the area of sculpture/3D. The successful candidate will share extensive knowledge of art history and contemporary practices, approaches, and movements in art, with a specialization in a cross-cultural approach to curriculum development encouraged. Candidates must foster an inclusive classroom learning environment with nondiscriminatory teaching methods.

Responsibilities

• Deliver relevant course material, assess student performance, provide guidance and assistance to students both in and out of the classroom, and submit grades on time.
• Teach specific courses with the following skill sets:
  • FA114: Knowledge of basic tools, utility knives, assemblage and structural systems; ability to teach a strong foundation of fundamental 3D concepts.
  • FA161: Knowledge of sculpting the figure; ability to teach anatomy and building a full figure and portrait head using an armature working in clay.
  • FA261: Excellent working knowledge of woodshop and welding tools and a commitment to safety; ability to teach wood tools (table saw, bandsaw, jig saw, drill press, miter saw) and welding tools (MIG welding and oxyacetylene). Ability to articulate shop-based skill sets' relationship to contemporary art and practice.
  • FA361: Excellent working knowledge and use of the woodshop, welding tools, wax, plaster, stone, wood, and clay; ability to articulate a contemporary approach to sculpture and assist students in the development of concept and form.
  • FA363: Expertise in mold making and casting using both traditional and non-traditional materials.
• Communicate the historical, cultural, and theoretical contexts and contemporary sculptural practices through lecture and visual presentations.
• Write a syllabus, teach learning outcomes as listed in the course outline, deliver relevant course materials with lectures and demonstrations, and provide guidance and input to students.
• Effectively communicate and work with shop technicians.
• Instruct and ensure the safe use of tools and machinery.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
  • Relevant 6 years of industry experience and/or its equivalent.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least one year of teaching experience at the college level.
  • Master of Fine Arts degree or equivalent.

Skills

• Comprehensive expertise in the use of sculptural processes and tools.
• Ability to communicate conceptual ideas for class projects through lectures and visual presentations.
• Strong commitment to safety in the use of tools and shop environments.
• Ability to write a syllabus and assess student performance.

Schedule

This is a part-time, adjunct teaching position beginning in Spring 2026. Review of applications will commence immediately and continue until the position is filled. The department will keep this posting open to create a pool of candidates for potential future adjunct assignments.

Pay

The UCE-FIT Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) governs compensation. The base rate is $89.98 per hour based on minimum qualifications. The final rate, step, and appointment rank are determined by a candidate's ability to demonstrate qualifications above the first step, in accordance with the CBA Adjunct Salary Schedules.
