About the role
The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation Western District seeks an Equipment Operator Journey 1 / 2 to support the maintenance and operation of Alaska's transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment to ensure Alaska's transportation infrastructure is safe and functional year-round.
- Perform snow and ice control, snow removal, drainage maintenance, traffic control, and emergency response activities during the winter.
- Maintain roads, bridges, signs, drainage systems, guardrails, pavement markings, and other roadway assets during the summer.
- Conduct equipment inspections and maintenance, assist with emergency response efforts, participate in safety and technical training, and operate heavy equipment.
- Contribute to the department's mission of keeping Alaska moving through innovative and adaptive transportation solutions.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Class B Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at the time of hire.
- A Class A Alaska CDL is required for the Equipment Operator Journey 2 position.
- Must comply with DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and pass a Pre-Employment drug test.

Pay
Equipment Operator Journey 1: $32.32 / Hourly (OT Eligible)
Equipment Operator Journey 2: $34.18 / Hourly (OT Eligible)

Hours and schedule vary based on the season and specific project needs. Year-round responsibilities include operating heavy equipment, conducting inspections, and participating in safety training.
