About the role
The Ed.D. Educational Leadership Program at San José State University prepares future leaders with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to address inequities in P-12 and higher education institutions. Students in this program are also prepared to assess educational practices and policies that can improve the lives of all students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.
Responsibilities
- Teach doctoral courses in the Ed.D. Leadership Program at San José State University.
- Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- Teach in a cohort-based program, covering topics such as contexts for education leadership and schooling, research methodology, organizational behavior and adult learning, and educational theory and practice.
- Work with and evaluate adult learners, demonstrating awareness of and addressing the needs of a diverse student population.
- Earn a satisfactory academic record and demonstrate teaching excellence at the doctoral level.
- Teach in both face-to-face and web-based delivery systems.
- Commit to eliminating educational disparities impacting minoritized students and communities.
Requirements
- Hold a Ph.D. or Ed.D. in the Social Sciences, Humanities, or Education.
- Have knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline to which the individual is assigned.
- Have the potential to or have a demonstrated record of published scholarship.
- Have the ability to work with and evaluate adult learners.
- Have evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
- Have the potential for teaching excellence at the doctoral level.
- Demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population through cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparable experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- Experience in teaching in both face-to-face and web-based delivery systems.
- A commitment to the elimination of educational disparities impacting minoritized students and communities.
- Expertise in areas that will strengthen or complement the academic areas of the existing faculty in the EdD Leadership Program.
Benefits
Compensation and salary range placement are determined by qualifications and experience. To learn more about range placement, please see University Policy S21-2. Anticipated starting salaries vary by level and range from L-A / Range 2 - $5507 - $5959 to L-D / Range 5 - $8593 - $10347.
Pay
There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full-time AY annual salary = rate x 12). See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.
Schedule
Teaching areas include contexts for education leadership and schooling, research methodology, organizational behavior and adult learning, and educational theory and practice. Teaching starts at the beginning of a semester and appointments may be renewed based on department need, funding, and performance.

Employment Conditions
- Faculty employees must complete CSU employee training as assigned and required based on their role.

- Appointments are contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement between California State University and California Faculty Association.
