About the role
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Driver & Vehicle Services Examining & Inspection Specialist to promote public roadway safety by administering vision screening, knowledge, oral, road, and skills tests for motor vehicle operators.
Responsibilities
- Administer vision screening, knowledge, oral, road, and skills tests for motor vehicle operators.
- Ensure compliance with driving and motor vehicle laws.
- Resolve issues and negotiate with applicants during testing.
- Provide customer service in a high-volume, stressful environment.
- Manage multiple duties independently while prioritizing tasks.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and communicate effectively with diverse groups.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Requirements
- Unrestricted driver’s license.
- Ability to work cooperatively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and underserved communities.
- Physical ability to move and transport light and heavy items.
- Pass background investigation, including criminal history, reference check, fingerprinting, credit check, and driver’s license check.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in a customer service role.
- Knowledge of driving and motor vehicle laws.
- Ability to speak a second language (e.g., Spanish, Hmong, Somali).
Skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Basic math skills for cashiering and transaction processing.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.

Pay
$23.31 - $32.94 per hour; $48,671 - $68,778 annually.
Schedule
Day shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday.
