Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Part-time Lecturer Pool
About the role
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino seeks part-time lecturers for both the San Bernardino Campus and Palm Desert Campus. The department is looking for experienced, well-organized, and student-centered individuals to teach General Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, or Analytical Chemistry.
Responsibilities
- Teach undergraduate courses in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Organic, or Analytical Chemistry
- Inspect lab for safety and preparation issues
- Perform experiments indicated in lab textbooks/manuals
- Maintain student attendance
- Maintain regular communication with laboratory and recitation coordinators
- Maintain scheduled office hours outside of scheduled teaching times
- Meet lab coordinator and lecture instructors' expectations for grading including: returning graded work promptly, recording grades regularly in Canvas, and turning in final lab grades by the last day of final exams
- If teaching lectures, instructors may need until the Thursday past finals week
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Chemistry or related field in hand by time of appointment or enrolled in a Chemistry Master’s Program
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level
- Strong command of the subject matter, course design/preparation, instructional material, and organization
- Ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degrees in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a closely related field
- Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation
- Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level
Special Conditions
- Must be able to pass a background check
- Must comply with CSU Executive Order 1083
About the Department
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry prides itself on the quality of the instruction it provides and the personal attention given to its students. Classes are deliberately kept to a moderate size so students can better interact with the instructor. The department features state-of-the-industry laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
