About the role

The Chemistry & Biochemistry Department in the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is accepting applications for a part-time lecturer pool. Positions are available as needed during the Fall and Spring semesters of the 2026-27 academic year. Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain course materials and syllabi.
  • Assess student learning and provide feedback.
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant research and pedagogical techniques.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and committees.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is required.
  • Doctoral degree in Chemistry or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

  • Pass a background check including a criminal records check.
  • Be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act.

  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

Pay

Ranks and salaries are commensurate with qualifications, experience, and time base. Classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are as follows:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211

Schedule

Positions are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Appointees must be available on very short notice.
