Chemistry & Biochemistry - Part Time Lecturer Pool

California State University, Fullerton’s Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry maintains a pool of qualified part-time lecturers. Applicants are contacted only when temporary openings arise, often on very short notice just prior to the start of an academic term.

About the role

The department seeks experienced, student-centered educators to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Appointments are temporary, semester-by-semester, and prorated based on the number of units assigned.

Responsibilities

• Deliver lectures, lead discussions, and facilitate laboratory sessions in assigned Chemistry or Biochemistry courses.
• Develop and grade assignments, exams, and other assessments.
• Hold regular office hours to support student learning.
• Submit syllabi, assignments, and reading materials for departmental review as required.
• Foster an inclusive, collaborative classroom environment that supports a diverse student body, including first-generation college students.

Requirements

• Advanced degree (Master’s, ABD, PhD, or EdD) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
• Prior university-level teaching experience.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research and teaching experience in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
• Experience working with diverse populations and creating supportive, inclusive learning environments.
• Relevant professional or performance experience in the field.

Pay

Monthly base salary range: $5,507 – $6,677 (prorated by units worked). Anticipated hiring range up to $6,221 per month, depending on qualifications. For a typical 3-unit course, compensation ranges from $6,608.40 to $7,465.20 per semester, paid in six monthly installments.

Schedule

Greatest need occurs during Fall (late August–mid-December) and Spring (mid-January–late May) semesters. Rare Summer Session appointments may also arise.
