Custodial Services Supervisor
Facilities Management at the University of Virginia is seeking candidates for a Custodial Services Supervisor role that supports both the Academic and Health System areas across the University. This is an exciting opportunity for those new to supervisory roles who have experience in commercial custodial work. We are looking for leaders who are self-starters, enthusiastic about working with a strong team, and passionate about the cleaning industry within higher education.
About the role
The Custodial Services Supervisors are responsible for providing clean and healthy environments for the University Academic and Health System facilities by supervising up to approximately 10–15 employees in performing safe and critical custodial management tasks. The Supervisor maintains department expectations of providing high-quality and consistent service by supervising, scheduling, and training the workforce. The Supervisor maintains positive and professional relationships with facility occupants, staff, colleagues, students, visitors, and department leadership.
This is for one position with two different shift opportunities: 4:00 AM–12:30 PM or 6:00 AM–2:30 PM.
The anticipated hiring range is $25.00–$28.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. A $1,500 sign-on bonus is available for all new hires to the University.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement custodial work schedules for assigned areas.
- Maintain written records of work scheduled and completed.
- Supervise members of the custodial team and provide them with frequent and constructive feedback.
- Ensure all required custodial projects are completed in a timely, professional manner.
- Track purchases and update inventories.
- Conduct and submit routine safety inspections.
- Work independently, be proactive with managing workload, and anticipate operational/small-scale projects.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience in custodial or related work.
- Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Demands
This role requires regular standing and walking through various indoor and outdoor work areas. Occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, and lifting may be required, including periodic use of cleaning equipment.
