About the role
The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is a not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, the City of New York. BNYDC strives to provide an environment in which innovative companies can take root and grow. The Supervisor is responsible for managing a team of frontline custodial staff.
Areas of Responsibility
- Manage a team of 15+ laborers, mentoring and providing staff with training and professional development opportunities
- Support the Custodial Services Manager with administrative tasks & facility initiatives
- Delegate tasks and monitor productivity, issue janitorial supplies and equipment
- Manage staff schedules, maintain timekeeping and personnel records
- Resolve employee and tenant complaints, concerns, and conflicts
- Conduct daily building walk-throughs and complete facility inspection reports
- Conduct daily checks of maintenance closets and equipment for safety and cleanliness
- Cooky support in urgent situations. i.e., snow removal, leaks, outages, etc.
- Ensure the general safety of daily operations and give immediate attention to hazards
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Required Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated people leadership skills. Effective at managing & developing a team
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent oral and written communications skills. Must be able to effectively respond to the needs of employees, tenants, and visitors
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong asset management skills
- Able to maintain a positive, productive atmosphere in a fast-paced environment
- High degree of initiative, self-motivation and ability to motivate others
- Able to develop and implement effective staff training procedures
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 4+ years of facility management/janitorial experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience, preferably in a Unionized environment
- Valid driver’s license required
- Equipment repair and maintenance knowledge preferred
- Must be able to be on call outside of the standard schedule as needed for emergencies
