Critical Float Pool Registered Nurse (Full Time)

About the Role

Provides direct and indirect patient care. Communicates with physicians, Nurse Manager, and co-workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Utilized in a clinical support float assignment to reinforce a positive unit culture, build staffing consistency, and provide leadership and mentorship. May supervise LPNs, CNAs, and other healthcare staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients and reassessments as per unit care area statement.
• Adequately assess and reassess pain; utilize appropriate pain management techniques and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
• Implement and revise the plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate the overall plan daily for effectiveness.
• Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
• Participate in evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
• Take on leadership and administrative roles, such as charge nurse or preceptor.
• Advocate for patient safety, ethical care, and policy improvements.
• Function as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
• Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
• Take an active role in the orientation of new employees and provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Perform, interpret, and take appropriate action on waived testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s standards.
• Administer medications correctly based on the age of the patient and their clinical condition, following the five (5) medication rights.
• Formulate and evaluate a teaching plan based on identified learning needs, including family in teaching as appropriate.
• Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
• Answer patients' call lights, anticipate patients' needs, and make safety rounds of patients.
• Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity; identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
• Act as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
• Interact professionally with patients/families and involve them in the formation of the plan of care.
• Participate in patient care conferences.
• Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span and provide age-appropriate care.
• Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.
• Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Maintain clear and appropriate communication with Nurse Manager, co-workers, and physicians.
• Maintain good working relationships both within and outside the department.
• Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicate with Social Service/Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
• Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
• Manage and operate equipment safely; coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
• Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stressful situations.
• Handle pressure to meet deadlines, accuracy, and constantly changing situations; manage conflict effectively.
• Perform unit-specific competencies, including nursing treatments and provision of clinical services.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
• Current state Registered Nurse Licensure, within the state of practice.
• BLS certification required at the time of commencement of work.

Skills

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer knowledge, data entry, and/or word processing.

Pay

Starting wage: $35.89/hourly. Actual offered wage is based on applicable experience.
