Job Summary

The Chaplain Resident 2 offers spiritual and emotional support to all Baylor Scott & White Health patients, families, and staff. This support is given regardless of faith background or religious affiliation. The role is part of a holistic, multidisciplinary team approach. The residency program lasts one year and follows the Clinical Pastoral Education Program accredited by ACPE. It also adheres to Baylor Scott & White Health policies and procedures.

Essential Functions of the Role

  • Fulfills CPE requirements; continues professional development of behavior-based competencies in the delivery of spiritual care services.
  • Provides competent leadership to Chaplain Interns and Chaplain Resident I colleagues.
  • Identifies an area of clinical specialization and completes a year-long project.
  • Organizes, promotes, and conducts religious services for patients, families, and staff. This includes weekly worship, memorial services, baptisms, weddings, anointing, and coordinating bereavement needs.
  • Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering spiritual support and counseling to patients and families.
  • Works with the Professional Chaplain, who mentors the resident in providing spiritual care within the interdisciplinary teams.
  • Properly documents spiritual care and pastoral assessments and care within the EPIC templates.

Key Success Factors

  • Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions.
  • Knowledge of the methods and methods of pastoral care and the role of a chaplain in an institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of the religious beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
  • Able to communicate thoughts clearly; both verbally and in writing.
  • Relational and listening skills.
  • Skill in counseling patients, family members and staff.
  • Able to passionately participate as a member of a professional interdisciplinary team.
  • Able to be inclusive and respectful of people who represent differences in faith, race, culture and sexual orientation.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION - Bachelor's
  • EXPERIENCE - 2 Years of Experience
  • CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/REGISTRATION - Cln Pastoral Education (CPE-U): ACPE; The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education.
