Chaplain Resident
About the role
The Chaplain Resident at St. Joseph Medical Center serves as a vital spiritual leader and compassionate caregiver within our hospital community. You will provide essential spiritual counseling and support to patients, families, and staff, offering compassionate presence, support, and appropriate rituals.
You will collaborate with the healthcare team to advocate for spiritual needs and integrate holistic care, ensuring respect for diverse beliefs. You must be highly compassionate, comfortable engaging with people who may be emotional, panicked, stressed, or in pain, and able to provide empathetic care, adapt to diverse spiritual needs, and communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provides individual and group spiritual care to patients, families, and VMFH staff under the general supervision of their assigned CPE Supervisor.
- Actively involves him/herself in self-care and all aspects of the clinical training program. Participates in all CPE functions.
- Collaborates with physicians, social workers, nursing staff, and other spiritual care team members regarding holistic wellness perspectives, working to heighten awareness of the importance of spiritual beliefs and practices as well as diverse religious and cultural values in treatment and assisting others in facing the limitations of life and healthcare systems.
- Collaborates with local clergy and other spiritual leaders in augmenting patients' faith group support.
- Participates in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to exchange information and collaborate with other caregivers. Provides input on the spiritual aspects of care and grief processes.
- In conjunction with the medical ethics committee, attends to ethical considerations in patient care.
Requirements
- None, upon hire
- Completion of graduate level education in Theology or Spirituality or its' equivalent, upon hire
- Bachelor's degree and completion of a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education and 1-3 years of successful ministry experience, upon hire

Pay
The posted compensation range of $21.00 - $21.00 /hour is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.
Schedule
80 hours per week, Monday through Friday (8:00 AM - 4:30 PM) with occasional weekend shifts.
