BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST I, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION
About the role
The Business Taxes Specialist I works under the general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II. They are responsible for reviewing the work of professional staff and complex cases, as well as working independently and completing special projects of the most complex nature. The incumbent acts as a Lead on large complex projects and assumes responsibility for completion of work. They evaluate issues, laws, and information maintained in the System and answer questions of management, other California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) units, local jurisdictions, and their representatives, and other State agencies.
Responsibilities

- Assisting staff at all levels in the Branch
- Acting as a Lead on large complex projects
- Completing special projects of the most complex nature
Requirements
This position requires employees to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation. The incumbent must also be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California.
Qualifications
The Business Taxes Specialist I position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least 2 years of progressively responsible experience in tax administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must also have knowledge of tax laws and regulations, and the ability to analyze and interpret complex tax issues.
Skills
Strong analytical skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office are required. Proficiency in tax software and the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks are also important.

Pay
The starting salary for this position is $8,052.00 - $10,079.00 per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
The position is a hybrid schedule, requiring staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
