This position will be located in our Sacramento, Headquarters office or one of the state field offices (Redding, Oakland, Fairfield, Santa Rosa, San Jose, Fresno, Bakersfield, Glendale, Ventura, Santa Ana, San Diego). The location of the position will be based on the location of the most qualified candidate.

Duties

A Business Taxes Specialist I in the Data Analysis Section researches, requests, and compiles data to formulate solutions. In doing this, the incumbent will:

  • Evaluate highly technical and sensitive audit and compliance issues.
  • Research and analyze new and existing data sources through innovative data mining techniques.
  • Analyze and resolve difficult and unique program activity issues.
  • Prepare responses to complex audit and compliance program matters.

Working in the Data Analysis Section exposes team members to all aspects of agency data, including, but not limited to, registration, returns and payments, and third-party data. Working in the unit also allows opportunities to work closely with audit and compliance team members from all over the agency, as well as exposure to senior management. Requirements

This employer participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Position requires employee to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation. Travel may be required up to five percent (5%) of the time.

Eligibility for Promotional Exams

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications for the Business Taxes Specialist I, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:

  • Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
  • Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
  • Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
  • Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.

Under certain circumstances other employees may be allowed to compete under provisions of Rules 234, 235 and 235.2. California Code of Regulations Rules 233, 234, 235.2 and 237 contain provisions regarding civil service status and eligibility for promotional examinations. Pay

  • $8,052.00 - $10,079.00 (New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.)

Schedule

  • Permanent, Full Time
  • Hybrid (Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.)
