BUSINESS TAXES SPECIALIST II, BOARD OF EQUALIZATION

About the role

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) seeks a highly skilled and motivated Business Taxes Specialist II (BTS II) to join our team. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most complex and high-impact tax and fee audit programs in partnership with the IRS and other state agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Organize, coordinate, and oversee complex multi-tax and fee program audits.
  • Work directly with IRS and CDTFA management, staff, accountants, tax managers, attorneys, and corporate officers of large national and international companies.
  • Serve as a liaison with the IRS, CDTFA, and Joint Operations Center (JOC)-participating states.
  • Develop anomalies and analytical insights used to generate audit leads.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on tax and fee laws to both staff and taxpayers.
  • Travel in-state and out-of-state up to 75% of the time to support audit operations.

Requirements

  • Under the general supervision of a Business Taxes Administrator III, the BTS II is responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating multiple tax and fee programs.
  • Lead and oversee large-scale, multi-program field audits performed by multiple audit teams.
  • Provide training to audit staff and advise taxpayers on the application of tax and fee laws.
