About the role
The VCU College of Humanities and Sciences is seeking a Strategic Senior Faculty member in innovative, application-driven chemistry. This position is part of a university-wide initiative to recruit high-impact tenured faculty members to support its rapidly growing research portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the college's research initiatives and contribute to the university's sponsored research awards of $568 M in FY25.
- Shape the future of chemistry through cutting-edge approaches to design, discovery, and application, particularly in interdisciplinary fields like physical chemistry, chemical biology, or synthetic organic chemistry, with a preference for those incorporating AI and ML.
- Collaborate extensively across VCU, including with the health sciences campus, to complement existing strengths and expand into emerging areas.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and new faculty.
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology or a closely related field is required, and post-doctoral experience is strongly encouraged.
- An internationally recognized research record and a strong record of external grant support.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students.

Salary range is commensurate with experience.
