About the role

Provides clinical leadership to improve quality and compliance in patient care, managing inter-professional teams and delivering advanced nursing services. Acts as a clinical authority in individualized care, leading rounds and interdisciplinary meetings, while providing comprehensive assessments, post-discharge visits, and urgent interventions. Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare teams to develop and revise care plans, ensuring quality outcomes in line with regulatory standards. Manages documentation, billing, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. Performs procedures within collaborative practice agreements and may serve as a preceptor for Nurse Practitioners. Maintains professional licensure and certifications, and supports staff education and development.

For Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, additional duties include psychosocial assessments, psychiatric treatment planning, mental health interventions, crisis management, and collaboration with psychiatrists.

Responsibilities

  • Leads clinical rounds and interdisciplinary meetings

  • Ensures care aligns with regulatory standards and quality outcomes

  • Performs procedures under collaborative practice agreements
  • Serves as a preceptor for Nurse Practitioners (as applicable)
  • Maintains professional licensure and certifications
  • Supports staff education and development

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners also perform the following:

  • Conducts psychosocial assessments
  • Develops psychiatric treatment plans
  • Provides mental health interventions and crisis management
  • Collaborates with psychiatrists for patient care

Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in New York State
  • Specialty in adult, family, or gerontology care
  • Certification by ANCC or equivalent
  • Current psychiatric-mental health certification for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • Two years of clinical experience
  • Knowledge of quality measures and coding
  • Bilingual skills if needed

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners require additional psychiatric experience and education.

Pay

Compensation includes per-visit and hourly rates, with a pay range of USD $58.30 - $77.72 per hour.
