2026-27 AY Lecturer Pool - Public Policy and Administration

Possible part-time openings for the 2026-27 academic year include the following courses. Refer to the course catalog for descriptions:

• PPA 210, Political Environment of Policy Making (Spring Semester)
• PPA 230, Public Budgeting and Finance (Fall Semester)
• PPA 297 A/B, Executive Fellows (Fall and Spring Semester)
• PPA 298 A/B, Judicial Administration Fellows (Fall and Spring Semester)

Responsibilities

• Instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours
• Assist students in identifying political factors affecting the policy process and developing strategies to address them
• Focus on the California political environment using case studies, structured role-playing, and analysis of politically feasible policy alternatives
• Equip students to work effectively as politically aware policy analysts
• Additional duties as assigned based on departmental needs

Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget.

Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a closely related field
• Minimum of three years of relevant professional and/or teaching experience

Preferred

• Terminal degree (e.g., PhD, JD, or equivalent) in a related field
• Minimum of five years of relevant professional and/or teaching experience

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (full-time rate for 15 weighted teaching units) are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month

Compensation is pro-rated based on units assigned out of 15 WTUs. A semester’s pay consists of six payments. Example: A Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $1,101.40 per check, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.

Schedule

• Appointments are typically for one semester, though occasionally academic year appointments are made
• Renewals depend on department needs, funding, and performance
• Hires are often made just prior to the start of the semester
