2026-27 Lecturer Pool for Public Policy and Administration

California State University, Bakersfield invites applications for the part-time Lecturer Pool in the Department of Public Policy and Administration for the 2026-2027 academic year. Positions may be available for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, with appointments ranging from one day to a full semester. Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year and are valid only for the current pool, which closes May 31, 2026.

About the Department

The Department of Public Policy and Administration (PPA) offers three degree programs: Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (BAPA), NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA), and Master of Science in Health Care Administration (MS-HCA). The department prepares competent, ethical, and effective managers and leaders for government, nonprofit, and health care organizations.

Responsibilities

Lecturers in the Department of Public Policy and Administration may be assigned to teach courses in public administration, public policy, health care administration, or related fields on an as-needed basis. Appointments may include in-person duties requiring an on-campus presence.

Requirements

• An earned master’s degree in public administration, public policy, health care administration, or a closely related field.
• Extensive leadership experience in government, nonprofit, or health care sectors.
• Academic and/or professional qualifications must be maintained for instructors in the MPA program to satisfy NASPAA accreditation requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• An earned Ph.D. or Doctorate in public administration, public affairs, or a closely related field.
• Prior collegiate teaching experience.

Pay

Lecturer positions are part-time and paid on a prorated basis according to the following full-time equivalent monthly salary ranges:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677 per month (anticipated starting salary: $5,507 - $6,092 monthly)
• Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,221 - $9,722 monthly)
• Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,825 - $10,674 monthly)
• Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211 per month (anticipated starting salary: $8,593 - $11,902 monthly)

Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
