2026-27 Lecturer Pool for Public Policy and Administration

California State University, Bakersfield invites applications for a pool of part-time lecturers in the Department of Public Policy and Administration for the 2026-2027 academic year. Positions may be available for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters, with appointments ranging from one day to a full semester. Applications will be considered on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year and are valid only for the current pool, closing May 31, 2026.

About the Department

The Department of Public Policy and Administration (PPA) offers a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration (BAPA), a NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration (MPA), and a Master of Science in Health Care Administration (MS-HCA). The programs prepare competent, ethical, and effective managers and leaders for government, nonprofit, and health care organizations.

Responsibilities

Lecturers in the Department of Public Policy and Administration may be assigned to teach courses in public administration, public policy, health care administration, or related fields. Appointments are temporary and part-time, with duties performed on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

Requirements

• Earned master's degree in public administration, public policy, health care administration, or a closely related field.
• Extensive leadership experience in government, nonprofit, or health care sectors.
• Academic and/or professional qualifications must satisfy NASPAA accreditation requirements for instructors in the MPA program.

Preferred Qualifications

• Earned Ph.D. or Doctorate in public administration, public affairs, or a closely related field.
• Prior collegiate teaching experience.

Pay

Lecturer salaries are prorated for part-time assignments and vary by rank. Full-time equivalent monthly salary ranges are as follows:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month (anticipated starting salary: $5,507 - $6,092 monthly)
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,221 - $9,722 monthly)
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month (anticipated starting salary: $6,825 - $10,674 monthly)
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month (anticipated starting salary: $8,593 - $11,902 monthly)

Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank.
