About the Role

The School of Public Affairs in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts at San Diego State University is accepting applications for their part-time lecturer pool. Temporary appointments may be either full- or part-time and are often made just prior to the start of the academic term, requiring availability on very short notice.

Initial appointments are typically one semester or one academic year, renewed contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work. Applications remain active in the pool during the academic year of submission.

  • Fall term: mid-August to late December
  • Spring term: mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer session opportunities may also be available

Qualifications

  • Graduate or terminal degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, City Planning, or closely related fields
  • University teaching experience
  • Demonstrated currency within the fields and sub-fields of the disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or City Planning based on the current SDSU catalogue

  • Unofficial transcripts (new employees only)
  • List of specific courses you are interested and qualified to teach

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
