About the Department

The Department of Public Health at Sacramento State serves nearly 500 undergraduate and graduate students. We offer the following degree programs:

• Bachelor of Science in Public Health, with concentrations in:
  • Health Informatics and Data Science
  • Occupational Safety and Health
  • Health Promotion
• Bachelor of Science in Health Services Administration
• Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management
• Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Promotion, Policy, and Leadership

About the Role

The Department seeks part-time lecturers to teach courses in the following focal areas:

• Health Informatics and Data Science
• Health Services Administration
• Occupational Safety and Health

Courses may include but are not limited to:

• Introduction to Health Informatics
• Research Methods
• Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
• Public Health Administration and Policy
• Leadership in Public Health

Instructors are needed for morning, afternoon, and evening classes delivered via online, hybrid, and in-person instruction.

Responsibilities

• Instruction, class preparation, and grading
• Holding office hours
• Additional duties as assigned based on departmental needs

Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are determined by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Appointments are conditional based on enrollment and budget, typically for one semester, with potential for renewal based on department needs, funding, and performance.

Requirements

• A master’s degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach undergraduate courses.
• A doctoral degree in a field related to the area of instruction is required to teach graduate courses.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience teaching college-level courses
• Previous or current employment in Public Health or related disciplines

Pay

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges (based on a full-time rate of 15 weighted teaching units [WTUs]) are:

• Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per month
• Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per month
• Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per month
• Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per month

A semester’s compensation consists of six payments of the pro-rated amount based on the units assigned. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn approximately $6,608.40 total for the semester.
