Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7–12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
Qualifications
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in cross country
- Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and commitment to staying current with new theories and procedures
- Ability to serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Upgrade coaching knowledge and skills through clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students interested in cross country, providing practice support and advice throughout the season
- Teach and enforce sport rules and regulations
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals

Evenings and weekends during the fall sports season
Reports To
Athletic director, with final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals
