About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must also demonstrate behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. This role involves working with students interested in cross country, providing practice support, and guiding the team to success throughout the sports season.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise the total cross country sports program.
  • Instruct and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
  • Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching and apply them as appropriate.
  • Serve as a role model for student athletes through instruction and actions.
  • Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Must complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in cross country or a major sport.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of cross country.

Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Strong leadership and role-modeling skills for student athletes.

Pay

$10,000.00 for the fall sport season.

Schedule

This is a fall sport position requiring on-site attendance, including evenings and weekends for practices, games, and events.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
