Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalency
- Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department (how to apply)
- Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association (www.nmact.org)
- Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program
- Previous successful coaching experience in cross country (or other major sports)
Responsibilities
- Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training to achieve individual and team success
- Promote socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes
- Stay updated on new theories and procedures through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation
- Work with students to provide practice support and guidance for a successful sports season
- Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport
- Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principals
- Serve as a role model for student athletes through instruction and actions
Work Environment
- On-site attendance is mandatory
- Evening and weekend work required
Reporting Structure
Reports to the athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
