2026-2027 SY - Athletic Coach - Assistant Cross Country

About the Role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team success. The coach must also demonstrate behaviors that foster socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in student athletes. This role involves working with students interested in cross country, providing practice support, and guiding the team to success during the sports season.

Responsibilities

• Organize and supervise the cross country sports program.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
• Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
• Demonstrate and promote behaviors that lead to character development, self-discipline, and self-confidence in student athletes.
• Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultations.
• Advise, coordinate, and support assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and principal.
• Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, games, and events.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
• Completion of the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
• Previous successful coaching experience in cross country or a related sport.
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of cross country and a willingness to stay updated on new theories and procedures.
• Ability to serve as a positive role model for student athletes.

Pay

$6,000.00 for the fall sport season.

Schedule

Fall sport season. On-site attendance is mandatory, including evenings and weekends for practices, games, and events.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
