About the role

To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The coach must instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The role involves working with students interested in sports, providing necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a cross-country season.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and supervise a total cross-country sports program.
  • Teach and enforce rules and regulations of the sport.
  • Instruct athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
  • Serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through instructions and actions.
  • Examine new theories and procedures pertinent to coaching cross-country.
  • Advise, coordinate, and support a staff of high school assistant coaches and middle school coaches in conjunction with the athletic director and respective principal.
  • Upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, and consultation.
  • Work evenings and weekends as required for practices, meets, and events.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency.
  • Must hold or have the ability to obtain an Athletic Coaching License (7-12) from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • Complete the Fundamentals of Coaching online exam offered through the New Mexico Activities Association.
  • Previous successful coaching experience in cross-country or a major sport.
  • Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of cross-country.
  • Ability to attend on-site activities and events as mandatory for the position.

Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
  • Proven experience as a coach in the assigned sport.
  • Strong understanding of coaching techniques and strategies.
  • Commitment to the personal and athletic development of student athletes.

Pay

$4,000.00 for the fall sport season.

Schedule

Fall sport season. Work involves evenings and weekends for practices, meets, and events.

Reports to: The athletic director, who provides overall objectives and final evaluation in conjunction with the high school principals.
