Windows System Administrator
Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Windows System Administrator supporting Test Operations and Sustainment (TOS II) at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. As part of an integrated team, you will design, support, and maintain Windows systems and peripherals for U.S. Air Force test operations.
About the role
The Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) operates over 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, and other specialized units across six states. AEDC is a key national resource for developmental test and evaluation through modeling, simulation, and ground/flight testing, requiring a team of highly qualified professionals.
Responsibilities
- Deploy, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows workstations and servers, including Active Directory (AD), user accounts, GPOs, DNS, DHCP, and Microsoft 365 environments.
- Support the VMware environment with routine maintenance, troubleshooting, updates, patching, and storage/networking configurations to ensure high availability and system stability.
- Administer the Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment, including routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and user pool management for optimal performance.
- Develop, maintain, and deploy Windows client images across the base for standardized workstation provisioning.
- Configure, monitor, and harden systems using access controls, firewalls, and antivirus measures in compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and DoD security policies.
- Implement vulnerability patches and ensure Government IT networks are documented, evaluated, and compliant in coordination with the Information System Security Manager (ISSM).
- Author and maintain comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical guides, and system configuration records.
- Perform regular system backups, execute disaster recovery planning, and maintain system configuration documentation.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate routine system administration tasks.
- Provide high-quality technical support to AEDC customers, contractors, and end-users; collaborate with the IT team on system enhancements.
- Maintain availability outside standard working hours to remediate critical IT infrastructure issues as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or 6 years of IT-related experience in lieu of a degree.
- 2 years of progressively relevant experience (or 6 years total if substituting for a degree).
- Current U.S. citizenship required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and secure access to the AEDC local area network (LAN).
- Must currently possess or commit to obtaining DoD 8140 certifications within 6 months of hiring.
- Occasional work outside normal business hours may be required.
- Condition of employment to wear company-issued Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as directed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience imaging and deploying Windows clients using tools like Windows Deployment Services (WDS), Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT), and System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
- Proficiency in Active Directory administration, Group Policy Object (GPO) configurations, DNS, and DHCP services.
- Strong knowledge of Office 365 management, vulnerability patching, and system security.
- Skilled in PowerShell scripting for automation and system management.
- Experience with Windows Server operating systems and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
- Familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM).
- Experience with Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificate implementation and management.
- Microsoft certifications (e.g., MCSA, MCSE) or VMware certifications (e.g., VCP-DCV, VCAP).
- Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Pay
$74,000 - $102,000 per year for full-time roles at Arnold AFB, TN. Part-time salaries will be adjusted based on hours worked.
