Wean-to-Finish Supervisor - Holstein, IA

About the role

The Wean to Finish Supervisor leads and directs a team of employees and contractors responsible for animal care, production performance, site maintenance, and cost management. Key responsibilities include conducting site visits, implementing strategies to achieve production and economic goals, and ensuring compliance with company policies.

Responsibilities

• Ensure proper care and management of animals and adherence to ISF animal well-being policies
• Execute strategies to achieve production and economic goals
• Communicate with supervisors and senior supervisors on site size and quality
• Forecast, select, and mark hogs for market; observe newly placed pigs
• Manage site maintenance, supplies, and tools for proper swine care
• Work with transportation department to manage pig flow
• Partner with site managers on environmental control and troubleshooting ventilation issues
• Monitor nutrient storage facilities and report issues
• Instruct and train managers on proper swine drug administration
• Maintain overall pig health and communicate with veterinarians and supervisors
• Administer ISF protocols for site maintenance and pig management
• Respond to alarms and initiate responses
• Assist with hiring and evaluate, discipline, and terminate employees
• Promote and demonstrate safe animal handling practices
• Provide feedback to senior management
• Run generators and portable generators correctly
• Follow company guidelines for vehicle usage
• Pick up and deliver supplies in a timely manner
• Identify and assist with euthanasia of animals
• Complete euthanasia process according to ISF protocols
• Understand daily production numbers and factors impacting those goals
• Educate employees on company production and incentive packages
• Ensure employees work safely and use PPE
• Conduct routine audits and create action plans based on audit results
• Support leadership in strategy development and continuous improvement

Requirements

Previous experience in swine production operations is preferred. Computer skills are required, including running reports, data entry, email, word processing, and navigating company documents. Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The ability to lift up to 75 pounds and climb in/out of livestock trailers is necessary.
