Vocational Supervisor / Group Supervisor Asst
Location: St. Peter, MN
Full-time, unlimited (permanent) position. Day shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday. No travel required.
Salary range: $32.21 – $46.72/hour ($67,254 – $97,551/year).
About the role
The Minnesota Sex Offender Program (MSOP) is a residential, sex-offense-specific treatment program in a secure, modified therapeutic community serving over 700 civilly committed individuals. As a Vocational Supervisor at MSOP/CPS St. Peter, you will lead, instruct, and manage vocational training programs that teach pro-social behaviors, transferable job skills, and a strong work ethic. Your work directly supports clinical treatment plans and prepares residents for safe, productive community reintegration while maintaining strict security protocols. This role sits at the intersection of rehabilitative therapy, workforce development, and institutional safety.
Responsibilities
- Maintain balance between therapeutic rehabilitation and security/safety for clients, facility, and the public.
- Produce physical products through vocational programming, adhering to contracts, state/federal laws, and production needs.
- Provide input in contract creation/negotiation, fair-market-value pricing, and vocational education opportunities.
- Manage budgets and own multiple projects.
- Multi-task between running multiple businesses/projects, hands-on training in trades and basic work skills, and enforcing program security rules/policies.
- Advise on industry trends to build or enhance vocational programming and phase out outdated/ineffective programs.
- Maintain one vocational program across three sites with a single budget.
- Supervise direct reports and lead teams.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, which may include any of the following:
- Supervisor, team lead, lead worker, or project lead experience.
- Completion of a State leadership development program (e.g., Emerging Leaders Institute or Senior Leadership Institute) or equivalent program through another organization.
- Paid or unpaid position leading a program or chairing a committee (e.g., Employee Resource Group) with:
- 1+ years identifying issues, goals, and strategic actions.
- 100+ hours per year time commitment.
- 3 years of experience providing direct services to sex offenders or persons with behavioral disorders, mental illness, developmental disabilities, or chemical dependency.
- Experience in vocational or rehabilitation programming that provides direction and development in group and individualized skills training.
- Experience using a variety of shop tools and knowledge of tool safety.
- Experience providing direction, training, and/or procedural guidance to staff and/or clients.
- Experience with budgeting, including reviewing and tracking expenses and balancing accounts.
OR meet all the following:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years of work experience in production, manufacturing, or operations demonstrating:
- Proven project management experience, including knowledge of purchasing, inventory management, product pricing, and procurement.
- Experience with budgeting, including reviewing and tracking expenses and balancing accounts.
- Experience using a variety of shop tools and knowledge of tool safety.
- Experience providing work direction, training, and/or procedural guidance to staff.
- 2 years of experience providing direct services to sex offenders or persons with behavioral disorders, mental illness, developmental disabilities, or chemical dependency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years of direct supervisory experience within a mental health, treatment, or correctional facility.
- Experience working in an environment requiring critical, in-the-moment decisions (e.g., operational shutdowns, mid-shift client removals due to safety concerns).
