Veterinary Technician Assistant - Surgery

About the role

We are seeking a Surgical Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic and growing surgical team at Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care (PVESC). Located in beautiful Portland, Maine, PVESC offers a wide range of services including Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Dermatology, Neurology, Cardiology, and more.

Responsibilities

• Aid in surgical preparation, including patient setup and monitoring
• Maintain sterile environments in surgical suites
• Support veterinarians and technicians during surgical procedures
• Monitor and assist with post-operative recovery
• Ensure exceptional patient care and comfort at all times
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team to enhance efficiency and safety
• Assist with advanced procedures and work with cutting-edge equipment such as CT, MRI, digital radiology, laser therapy, and more

Requirements

• Veterinary surgical experience preferred, but open to training the right candidate with strong general nursing skills
• A fast learner who can handle pressure and values teamwork
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• A passion for surgery and dedication to patient care
• A collaborative, positive attitude

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current certification as a Veterinary Technician (VTS) or equivalent
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Pay

$22-30/hr, commensurate with experience

Schedule

This is a full-time day-shift position. Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday 9:00am - 7:30pm
