About the role

VCA PetMed Animal Hospital is growing and looking for a Veterinary Assistant Supervisor to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced veterinary professional who is passionate about leadership, mentorship, and patient care. We are seeking someone who can lead by example, foster a positive and collaborative culture, and help develop our support staff while maintaining the high standards of care our clients and patients deserve.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching to support staff
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and development of team members
  • Create and manage staff schedules
  • Lead team meetings and facilitate effective communication
  • Implement and uphold hospital policies and procedures
  • Monitor daily workflow and staffing needs to support efficient operations
  • Ensure accurate handling and documentation of controlled substances
  • Partner with hospital leadership to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and team development

Requirements

This role requires a strong background in veterinary medicine, with a minimum of 5 years of experience as a veterinary assistant or similar role. Leadership experience is preferred but not required. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a passion for veterinary care and a desire to make a difference in the lives of pets and their owners. Strong organizational and time management skills are essential, as is the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and a valid driver's license are also required.

Skills

Strong leadership and mentoring skills are crucial for success in this role. Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities are also important. Familiarity with hospital management systems and a commitment to ongoing learning and professional development are beneficial.
