UICC Walk-in Clinics - Physician Assistant 60-100% (Multiple Openings)
About the role
The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking to fill multiple positions (60-100%) for Physician Assistant to support QuickCare and Urgent Care clinics. These positions will support our Iowa City (Corridor) and Quad Cities locations.
Responsibilities
- Provide medical care and management for patients, exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided in the Walk-In Clinics, will rotate to different Walk-in Clinics, and also utilize online telehealth platforms.
- Obtain medical history and perform physical examination.
- Assess, assist, diagnose and treat medical or surgical problems and record findings.
- Perform or assist in and interpret the performance of laboratory and related studies.
- Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, the suturing and care of wounds, removal of foreign bodies, ear and eye irrigation and other clinical procedures.
- Assist in arranging for continued care such as but not limited to: transfer to the Emergency Treatment Center; follow-up care or establishment of care with a primary care provider; and/or follow-up consultations (including referrals to appropriate specialty and subspecialty physicians as indicated by patients’ problems).
- Perform and screen results of special medical exams including but not limited to electrocardiogram, radiography, audiometric and vision screening, tonometry, and pulmonary function screening tests.
- Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health on matters such as diets, disease, therapy, and normal growth and development.
- Evaluate, treat, and institute procedures essential to providing an appropriate response to urgent medical problems.
- Maintain awareness of health facilities, agencies, and resources in order to facilitate the appropriate referral of patients.
- Order medications and administer drugs.
- Direct other medical personnel and health professionals in the execution of patient care.
- Participate in educating health care students in various programs.
- Participate in committees within the division, department, College of Medicine and University of Iowa Health Care.
Qualifications
- Licensed as PA in the state of Iowa.
- Minimum of 6 months experience as a Physician Assistant.
- Demonstrated experience in area of clinical practice is required.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage acutely ill patient population (of all ages) within a highly functioning unit/department.
- Proved capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
- Current valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy Standards.
- Availability to provide support at other clinical locations based on clinical hours/needs.
- BLS, ACLS and PALS certification (obtained within first 6 months of employment).
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of acute patient care PA experience within Emergency Department, Urgent Care and/or Walk-In Clinic area(s), or Family Medicine.
- Some knowledge of University policies and procedures desired.
- Previous EPIC experience.
- Comfortable with technology and leveraging video, or the desire to learn.

Pay
Salary: $87,632 - $158,296 (Salary is based on years of experience)
