Truck Driver - Hiker/Vehicle Transporter/CDL - Part Time

About the Role

Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants for the position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role involves vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and customer sites. Primarily, you will transport box trucks up to 26’; CDL Class A holders may also move tractors and trailers. The position may include assisting the service department with parts and equipment delivery. This is a casual/on-call part-time role ideal for licensed CDL Class B or Class A drivers seeking supplemental income, with hours ranging from 0 to 25 per week based on business needs.

Responsibilities

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
• Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager.
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
• Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by a supervisor.

Requirements

• 2 years of driving experience.
• 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record.
• Valid Class B CDL required; CDL Class A license preferred.
• Must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in your state of residence.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• Ability to work independently, strong customer service and organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
• English language proficiency (required by federal law, 49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
• Regular, predictable attendance is an essential function of the job.
• Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including:
  • Annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check.
  • Successfully completed DOT Physical.
  • Safety Performance History records request from prior employers in the last 3 years.
  • DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start (for CDL holders) and FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and work at the specified location.
• Must complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (including past employment, education, and criminal history), and drug screening.
• This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation and is designated as safety-sensitive. Associates must work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, accepting responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to see and hear; specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Frequent movement, standing, walking, and sitting required.
• Frequent use of hands to touch, handle, and feel, and to reach with hands and arms.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 lbs/45 kg.
• Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely and frequently enter/exit the vehicle and the rear cargo area.

Schedule

Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:00 PM.
