About the role
Penske Truck Leasing in South Kent seeks a Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver) to deliver and return vehicles to Penske locations and customer sites. The role primarily involves transporting box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A holders, moving tractors and trailers. The position may also assist the service department by delivering parts and equipment. This is a casual/on-call part-time role offering 0 to 25 hours per week based on business needs, ideal for licensed CDL Class B or Class A drivers seeking supplemental income.
Responsibilities
- Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to Penske or customer locations.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report issues to the location manager.
- Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles.
- Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by a supervisor.
Requirements
- 2 years of driving experience with a clean DMV motor vehicle record.
- Valid Class B CDL required; Class A CDL preferred.
- Must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in the state of residence.
- Ability to read and follow written instructions, work independently, and demonstrate customer service, organizational skills, and a positive attitude.
- English language proficiency as required by federal law (49 C.F.R. 391.11(b)(2)).
- Regular, predictable attendance is essential.
- Must maintain a current driver qualification file, including an annual MVR check, DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records from prior employers in the last 3 years.
- CDL holders must complete a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and undergo an FMCSA Clearinghouse review.
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and complete a background investigation (including employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening.
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner, accepting responsibility for personal and others’ safety.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to see and hear, with specific vision abilities including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent movement, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands to touch, handle, and feel.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg and occasionally up to 100 lbs/45 kg.
- Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely enter/exit the vehicle and rear cargo area.
Pay
$23.00 per hour for Class A CDL holders.
