Job Summary
The step down unit nurse position is located in a healthcare facility serving diverse adult patient populations, including cardiac, vascular, renal, and respiratory cases. This role involves providing specialized care to patients with various medical conditions, with a focus on patient experience, effective communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.
Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week
- RTO (Return to Office) is limited to 7 days or less per 13-week contract; additional requests will not be approved
- Shift Notes: 12-hour night shifts required
Required Qualifications
- Valid license to practice
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certifications
- Minimum of 2 years of recent step down or comparable experience
- Location within 50 miles of the facility
- Pass/fail exam on Wednesdays during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
Preferred Qualifications
- Competence in arterial lines and titratable medication management such as Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
Duties
- Providing patient care for adult populations with diagnoses including cardiac conditions, dialysis, cancer, sepsis, stroke, renal failure, and post-procedural monitoring like pacemaker or stent placements
- RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips and troubleshoot high-flow oxygen therapy equipment
Additional Information
- Orientation includes a one-day department-specific training
- The unit uses EPIC charting system, with an emphasis on patient experience, responsiveness, and communication
- RNs will float to MedSurg or ICU to care for patients with PCU acuity
- Dress code is Navy Blue
- The unit features overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- The unit primarily serves Hispanic and Somali populations
- Cancellations: The hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment, with a minimum of 3 shifts for contracts shorter than 13 weeks
