About the role

This assignment focuses on coordinating patient care for adult and occasional pediatric patients in a general Med/Surg unit. The nurse will implement the Nursing Process to support comprehensive medical, surgical, outpatient, observation, swing bed, and pediatric care. You will report to the Unit Director and collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Lead or Nursing Supervisor during your shift. Onboarding includes credential verification prior to start. Applicants should be aware this unit is not pediatrics-only, but may see pediatric patients from time to time. Local housing resources are available; candidates are responsible for arranging their own housing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to adult Med/Surg patients and occasional pediatric patients, including assessments, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care
  • Administer medications and monitor for adverse reactions, vital signs, and clinical changes; respond promptly to deteriorating patients
  • Coordinate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and update individualized care plans; support discharge planning and patient education
  • Document using established nursing processes and charting systems; ensure patient safety and quality standards are maintained
  • Manage patient flow on a busy unit, prioritize tasks, and document changes to care plans as condition evolves
  • Support and supervise licensed and unlicensed staff as needed; collaborate with the Unit Director, Clinical Nurse Lead, and Nursing Supervisor

Requirements

  • Active RN license in Vermont or a multi-state license (granted licensure acceptable); BLS required; ACLS certification required prior to start
  • Minimum 3 years of acute care experience; Meditech experience preferred
  • Med/Surg experience with a track record of comprehensive, patient-centered care
  • Ability to work in a general Med/Surg unit with adult patients and occasional pediatrics
  • Ability to work the stated shift pattern and adapt to a rural setting; reliable transportation may be needed for housing arrangements

Schedule

  • Shift: Day shift, 12-hour shifts (3x12), 7am–7pm
  • Every other weekend
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 per week

Pay

  • Weekly pay: $1,799-$1,887 per week
