About the role
The Transportation Services Representative 1 (Bilingual Spanish) position at the Oregon Department of Transportation's Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group / East Region in Hermiston provides assistance to the public with various DMV services including driver license applications, vehicle registration, permit issuance, and vision tests. The role also involves administering knowledge and skill tests to potential drivers, ensuring correct fees are collected, and providing information about regulations and policies.
Responsibilities
- Assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles and issuing permits and license plates.
- Administer knowledge, skill and vision tests to potential drivers.
- Ensure correct fees are collected and provide information about regulations and policies.
- Administer behind-the-wheel drive tests.
- Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
- Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
- Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
- May require standing for extended periods of time, working in inclement weather, working an irregular schedule, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
- Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy.
Requirements
The position requires the ability to speak and read Spanish fluently. Applicants must indicate their Spanish speaking and reading skills in the application questionnaire. Driving is an essential function of this position and requires a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record.
Qualifications
- Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
- Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
- Three months experience collecting money and making change.
- A completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. Pre-employment driving records checks will be conducted on the final candidate(s).
