About the role

The Transportation Services Representative 1 (Bilingual Spanish) position at the Oregon Department of Transportation's Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group / East Region in Hermiston requires the ability to speak and read Spanish fluently. This role involves assisting the public with various DMV services including driver license applications, vehicle registration, and permit issuance. Additionally, the representative will administer knowledge, skill, and vision tests, provide information about regulations and policies, and conduct behind-the-wheel drive tests.

Responsibilities

Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions in a way that is easily understood.
Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
Administer, correct, and explain driver license tests.
Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
May require standing for extended periods of time, working in inclement weather, working an irregular schedule, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
Must be able to type at least 30 words per minute with a high level of accuracy. A typing assessment will be conducted at the time of interview for selected candidates.

Requirements

This position requires two years of public contact/customer service experience involving dealing with the public in person or by phone, providing information about services/programs, or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations, and procedures. Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data is also required, along with three months experience collecting money and making change. Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Special qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid US driver license and an acceptable driving record. Pre-employment driving records checks will be conducted on our final candidate(s).

Qualifications

To be considered, applicants should have demonstrated computer literacy skills and reading comprehension skills. Experience working in a fast-paced environment and dealing with stressful situations is preferred. Experience providing excellent customer service, handling multiple assignments, and frequent interruptions is beneficial. Experience effectively interpreting and communicating complex rules and policies to customers or clients is highly valued.

The salary range listed is the non-PERS monthly salary range. If you are already a participating PERS member or once you become PERS eligible, the salary range will increase by 6.95%.
